Europe is now home to strike action, with many workers unhappy that soaring inflation has not been accompanied by higher wages.

Italy: Transport strikes in May and June

Alitalia to go on 24-hour ground handling strikeAirportexistJune 4th.

The action involved processing the employment contracts of persons. The union says wages and working conditions have not improved over the past six years.

At least four of Italy's largest transport workers' unions will be on strike and the protests are expected to cause some disruption at all major Italian airports, especially at check-in counters and baggage claim areas.

Spanish airlines Volotea andVueling, and Air Dolomite – a subsidiary ofLufthansaoperates routes from Germany to 13 different destinations in Italy - expected to participate in the 24-hour national strike.

At the same time, the ground crew fromAmerican airlinesandemirates airlinesThe strike is expected to take place for four hours, from noon to 4pm.

Flights operated by one of the airlines could be delayed or canceled that day, but details were not yet provided.

The good news is that under Italian lawflightFlights scheduled to depart between 7:00 and 10:00 and 18:00 and 21:00 are not affected by the strike action.

France: Travelers warned of ongoing pension protests in France

Trade unions all over France are unitedOngoing fight against raising the mandatory retirement ageFrom 62 to 64.

Protests have erupted across the country after President Emmanuel Macron decided to push through reforms without a parliamentary vote. Garbage piled up and was incinerated in Paris. Protesters also clashed with police in the French capital.

The extent of travel disruption on strike days varies. However, flights and trains are cancelled,tourist attractionsIParisSometimes off. So it's worth checking ahead if you're traveling on a strike day.

French air traffic control strike

Air traffic controllers (ATC) have been on strike since March,Affecting flights across Europe, and must last until June 1. Low-cost airline Ryanair said the ATC strike for more than 50 days in the first four months of 2023 would result in the cancellation of more than 3,700 flights and affect more than 666,000 passengers.

UK: National rail strikes in May and June

Later in the week, the three main transport unions called for a nationwide strike.

Nationwide strikes will affect most train companies31 Major,June 2andJune 3rd.

On previous train strike days, very few trains were running, so it's worth planning ahead if you're traveling on these days.

National Rail said: "Train companies will be busy assessing how this will affect their ability to provide services, so full details of the level of service each train operator will be able to provide will not be known in the coming days.

However, passengers are warned to expect importantriotBecause it can result in little or no service across large swaths of the network.

Service may also be interrupted immediately after a strike day and begin later in the day. "

If you have a ticket affected by the strike, you will be able to use it on another day or get a free refund.

Airport advises people to check their statusflightbefore travel. Passengers are asked to arrive at least two hours before short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul flights.

Unions elect 400 workers across five companies; Glasgow Airport Ltd, ICTS Central Search, OCS, ABM and Falck Fire Services UK take strike action.

Spain: Aviation and airport strikes continue through summer

The Spanish Airline Pilots Association (SEPLA) has called for a new wave of strike days for Air Europa pilots. they will assumeMay 22-26 and May 29-30etc.June 1-2.These will be carried out at all the airline's operating bases and workplaces in Spain.

The union warned that the strike "will be prolonged in the coming months" if the company refuses to negotiate a fair deal.

Pilots represented by SEPLA at other airlines iSpain, includeRyanairandeasyjet, is also considering a strike this summer.

This is part of an ongoing protest against the use of the "minimum service law" by Spain's Transport, Transport and Urban Agency. That would require at least 90 percent of flights to continue even while engaging in wage fights.

SEPLA claims that the law is applied in a way that limits pilots' constitutional right to carry out general strikes and protects the interests of European airline managers. Other groups, including air traffic controllers and flight attendants, are also likely to join the strike, putting pressure on airlines and the government.
